CLEANUP EVENT DURING WADDENWERKWEEKEND A BIG SUCCESS! 26-9-2009
The beach combing event organised by the Waddenvereniging on Saturday the 26th of September was a big success.
Approx. 220 enthousiastic volunteers signed up. They managed to remove around 30 cubic meters of rubbish from the Boschplaat beach, alongside De Milieujutter and it's volunteers. This took place within a timespan of just four hours.
Thank you all and we are looking forward to the next event in 2010.

The footage that was shot during the event will be broadcasted on the Dutch television programme "Vroege Vogels" on October 6th.
Results of "JUTTEN&BOUWEN" (beachcombing and building)
At the Oerol event the well-known architect Denis Oudendijk built up a nice piece of artwork near the entrance of the town of Formerum.
During the week this artwork grew with the help of volunteers gathering more litter. See the photos below for an impression of the end result.
The work was visited daily and also photographed frequently. Even the AVRO and Omrop Fryslan (both broadcasting companies) aired some of it.
On Oerol's closing day, the 21th of June, everything was cleaned up. The end result was over 2000 kilograms.
Since our founding in February 2008 we now took over 31.000 Kilograms from the beach.
Environmental drama
Yearly, numerous animals are victim of random litter, washing ashore on the beaches of Terschelling. Also this Jan van gent, entangeled, helpless. Without help, this animal would have died in a terrible way. We managed to save it.
This is one of the exaples of why we work on the beaches of Terschelling every day again to keep them clean.
Another victim of litter was this seal. It was found at the end of the island with a rope around its neck.
Do you want to stop this polution and animal suffering?
Register as volunteer or support us with your donation.
(The bird was freed from the litter and handed over to Hessel, who is well known by his seal-refuge. Also the seal was freed and is doing well)

Cleanup event National Geographic
Wednesday the 22th of april, on Earth Day, a group of approx. 90 vollunteers comprised of mainly children from the mainland started cleaning up a part of the beach of Terschelling.
And of course the Milieujutter was participating in that event.
This event has been a great succes. Between pole 15 and 22 approximately 4 cubic meters of litter was removed from the beach.
Many of the children told us that they enjoyed the event. They also told us they are more aware now of the problems litter causes in nature.
Cleanup event Stay Okay 2009
Stay Okay organized a cleanup event from the 16th until the 20th of February. De Milieujutter was also part of this event.
We worked with approx. 50 volunteers and took 3420 kilograms of litter from the beach.
An excellent result. We're looking forward to the same event next year.
A year later
We started in February 2008 and we cleared 29.000 kilograms of litter from the beach in the year that past until now.
The result is evident.
Unfortunately, the tide and wind carry new rubbish to the beach every day. So in 2009 we will keep doing the best we can for a clean environment.
Oktober 2nd 2008 a great cleaning action by the ”Waddenvereniging” (community of supporters of all the islands on the north coast of the Netherlands)
On Saturday, the 27th of september 2009 approx. 140 highly motivated volunteers took 3980 kilograms of litter from the beach. De Milieujutter was also part of this event, of course.
The area that was cleaned started at pole 24 and ended at pole 27. Also, a part of the Cupido polder was cleaned.
De Waddenvereniging plans on repeating this event next year. We're looking forward to it.
